Trap Cropping is another method used to prevent insects from attacking the crops; the purpose of trap cropping is beneficial because a "trap" crop, which its purpose is to protect the main crops from being attacked by the insects, by being more attractive to the insects than the main crop. These trap crops can be built in two ways; perimeter trap cropping or row intercropping. Perimeter Cropping (Border Cropping), is where the "trap crops" are built around the main (prize) crops, which prevents insects that attack from the outer perimeter border of the crops. The other "trap cropping," is Row Intercropping, which is where the "trap crops" are built alternately into the crops to allow the insects to eat of the trap crops without contaminating the main crops.
Trap Cropping is very positive for the farm, because it allows the farmer to stay all natural without having to use any pesticides, which also lowers the risk of sickness caused by pesticides as well additional financial savings due to not having to purchase the chemicals.
Trap Cropping is wonderful because it improves the crops quality and assists in the preservation of the soil and the environment.
A few trap crops that will be beneficial for the farm:
Chervil is a good trap crop for vegetable produce main crops; the trap crops prevent slugs and snails from eating the vegetable crops and should be planted by using the intercropping method.
Chinese Cabbage, Mustard, and Radish are good trap crops for cabbage main crops; the trap crops prevent cabbage webworm and flea hoppers, they should be planted by using the intercropping method.
Medic are good trap crops for carrot main crops; the trap crops prevent carrot root fly.
