CleanGreens

This discussion focuses on identifying our unmet needs related to the farm, the farmhouse, the market, and the overall project. We'll paste the summarized list below as well as attach it as a word document. There are also two group specific wish lists -- for the Farm and the Market -- that are subsets of this list.

If you know how any of these needs can be met, or if you know of any other unmet needs, please reply in this discussion.

UNMET NEEDS AS OF 10/22/08
1. Farm Related Unmet Needs
• Visquine* is needed immediately to restore makeshift greenhouse (*heavy plastic to cover a green house that is approximately 40x60' and 12' tall in size). Two or three real greenhouses will be needed down the road, yet we absolutely need to fix the current makeshift greenhouse immediately as the rainy season will begin soon, and this is the area where we can process produce and organize for the market.

• Organic pesticide spray

• 3 onion hoe's (hoe's with a long blade on the end of the handle)

• Cylinder pickup truck for Farm

• Farm tools which include:
o Seeder to plant certain types of seeds
o Garden hoes needed (10)
o Multi-purpose Toolbox (with tape measure, wrenches, screwdrivers, utility knives - the basic tools that any handyman would utilize).
o Rain gear for farmers

• Tractor/plow/tiller budget to get other 17 acres prepped for 2009.

• Untreated/organic seeds budget of $2200-$2600 for next planting in preparation for 2009 when the other 17 acres should be utilized.

• Petty cash budget to obtain such items as plastic bags for market, labels, marketing materials (i.e. suggested cooking methods flyers for produce we're selling to educate the consumer who normally does not buy organic or this particular kind of produce).

• more team members for Farm

Good. I have added those items and I'm trying a different approach to this discussion. You can edit a post when you start a discussion. I have renamed this discussion "naming our unmet needs". I'll always use that first post to keep an up-to-date list of our unmet needs, so it's not just an attachment. If we adopt the practice of posting unmet needs here and keeping this up to date, it'll always be a place to send someone who's interested in helping out. Make sense? Take a look over the list and you'll see I added the items you suggested.
I will contribute 1000 Puget Sound Fresh bags for the Farmers Market.
This is great Mary. Thank you. Lottie just asked for bags what a perfect fit. I love seeing what we have turn into what we need. Thanks again!
Hi All, My brother and I went out to the farm yesterday and brought a kitchen table and chairs. Taalib and Brian gave us a tour. My brother Tom is Dharmdoggie on the Clean Greens pages. He and I were both very curious about the lagoon so Taalib and Brian let us pull ourselves up to see it . The algae on the water was glittering and Tom loved it so he went back and took some pictures which I hope he'll send soon. Then we all sat down at the table for a visit. Tom talked with Taalib about his trip to India and Brian and I talked about screenwriting! It was a great visit. What a beautiful farm and such great, hardworking farmers. The whole project is an inspiration.

Katy Piencke of Seattle Tilth has offered to help me get a couple other things out there and we're working on it.

Joanne
Hi all, I went out to the farm today and brought some kitchen supplies, a desk, bookshelf, and desk chair from Joanne's brother, to the farmhouse. They were very appreciative. Brian expressed an immediate need for some bedding: warm blankets, pillows, and sheets. And a laptop so he can work on writing screenplays.

We also went down the road and visited with Luke Woodward of Oxbow Farm. He gave us a little tour around their front fields, and talked a little about his crop rotation and cover cropping practices, as an organic soil building and pest management strategy.

He also mentioned a pest called cucumber beetle as a possible culprit for the holes in the spinach, but thought that the temperature will be cold enough in a few weeks that the bugs will die off, and the spinach will keep going.

I look forward to seeing what comes next. I hope to be in touch with Joanne and Lora-Ellen, supporting them with supplies donation solicitation, and grant research. My co-worker at Seattle Tilth, Laura Niemi, will continue to be the Seattle Tilth representative to the Advisory Board.
Hi All, Good work Katie. Tom, my brother, emailed me that he had left a sprayer outside his garage too with a suggestion on how to make a mix. It was: The spray bottles they had gave precise ingredients. It was sesame oil, lecithin, and other common things. Or maybe they can buy what they had in bulk.

I'm sorry I didn't get the idea to you before you went out so you would know to pick up the sprayer. He said he has never used it. I think the other supplies needs are outlined on this site so go for it and feel free to contact businesses. I'm going to make a list of foundations and sources for Wednesday that I will post here as well.

Thank you again, Joanne
This is great Katie. Thanks to you, Joanne and Joanne's brother for giving of yourselves and making time to support the farm and the farmers! It is very much appreciated and really helps build the momentum for success. Thank you so much!!
Ditto. The momentum of the program, the attractiveness of the mission, and the good hearts of the community have compassionately conspired to provide necessary support for the Clean Greens Farm and Market .
This is a great tracking document. We can simply check items off as they are delivered.
