CleanGreens

At today's Advisory Committee Meeting, we disussed a set of priorities for marketing the Clean Greens Farm and Market, creating a continual and sustainable distribution channel, and working within the BDDTF Goals and Objectives.

For all of the groups and communities listed below, we must make concerted outreach efforts so that they know about us, understand our mission, and increase their potential to be customers/consumers.

The marketing priorities are as follows:

1. Community - neighbors who use the farm stand located at New Hope and other potential locations. Responsibility for Outreach: Lottie and Rev. J.
2. Restaurants - community restaurants that cook greens and are likely to want to help us. Responsibility for Outreach: Mary will contact Kingfish Cafe, Fair Start, Grange Cafe in Duvall and others. Catfish Corner might be good for us to work with as well.

3. Churches - local churches from the black diaspora (African American, Ethiopian, Eritirean, Carribean) will be approached with brochures and order forms to place orders that can be picked up at the farm stand. Responsibility for Outreach: Jon will complete brochure. Rev. J is working with a partner on the church outreach. Lottie and Rev. J. will provide a draft order form.

4. Local Markets - local markets that buy local produce. Responsibility for Outreach: Lora-Ellen will talk to local markets. See Fundraising discussion for report on her efforts.

5. Food Banks and Charitable Organizations - unsold produce will be given to food banks and shelters. Responsibility for Outreach: NA (please volunteer)

6. Organizations - connect with organizatons that share our mission. Responsibility for Outreach: Mary will connect Clean Greens to Eat Local for Thanksgivnig, an effort of BALLE Seattle, Cascade Harvest Coalition, Madison Market, and local farms. dnr.metrokc.gov/wlr/farms/eatlocal/index.htm

I sent this too soon!

7. Media - local media can tell the story. Responsibility for Outreach: Rev. Jeffrey will place a paid ad in The Facts, contact The Medium and KRIZ (chrisb@mediumnews.net) and KCBS (wdhauge@hotmail.com). Lora-Ellen can place announcements in the Seattle neighborhood newspapers.
Here are ways we decided to market the market.

1. VENDORS
a) Trader Joes - they must work through a corporate office and as a result, don't buy local. Interestingly, all knew of us and were sorry they could not sell our product.
b) Madison Market - Madison Market's Produce Manager, AJ Hess, is interested in working with us. From Lottie (and Deasha) she requires all of the items listed under MARKET NEEDS. (in Fundraising group)
c) PCC - PCC is currently unable to sell our product because they have commitments to other local organic farmers, we are not certifiied organic and we have too limited a produce line. He needs more variability as he does not sell enough greens in the 8 stores to take us on for only those items (even if we were organic). Joe Hardiman recommended that we contact two groups that sell to multiple vendors - Organically Grown Company (www.organicgrown.com) and Charlies Produce (www.charliesproduce.com)
d) GreenFresh Market - In Renton, Produce Manager Rick is interested in the produce if we provide him with pricing. As earlier noted, until such time as we are certified organic, he is willing to sell it as chemical and pesticide free. GreenFresh uses Charlie's Produce so could buy our produce through them directly if we get connected to them. Or we can deliver them. Also, he is excited that we might offer cooking demonstrations as a way to excite interest.

2. BOX STORES
McClendon's wants us (Joanne and I) to contact Suzanne Thompson, Donations Manager, who will contact her corporate office. Our wish list for them includes visquine, organic aphid spray, rakes, hoes, and a tractor). They require a letter on our letterhead (CG) that outlines who we are, what we do, what we want and provides our tax ID or 501c3 number.
Jackie & Nancy from Food Lifeline met with Rev. Jeffrey and me on Friday. They are interested in buys greens from Clean Greens. This is great because they supply 26 food banks. Lottie
Lottie, you will have a great list of things to report at our meeting.

Can you let us know all of the different markets to which we are selling now and how much each of those sales has been.

It also seems to me that we must plant again soon to keep this up and supply until winter. Is thsi the case?

And then think about cold weather crops.

You are working SO hard. And look at the rewards!

Lora-Ellen
